Two Real Stories: How These Men Resolved Performance Anxiety
In this episode, I walk through two clients who came to me with performance anxiety, what caused it, how different their situations were, and exactly what we did to resolve it. If you've ever wondered whether this is fixable, take a listen.
Why Performance Anxiety Actually Happens
Most men assume performance anxiety means something is wrong with their confidence, or that they just need to relax more. Neither is true.
Performance anxiety is about importance, not confidence.
I see this constantly with men who have plenty of sexual experience, sometimes a lot of it, and have never struggled with anxiety before. Then they meet someone who actually matters and suddenly their body won't cooperate.
When the stakes go up, your nervous system registers the moment as high-risk. Your brain has linked sexual performance to whether you'll keep this person, whether you're enough, whether you'll be rejected. The higher the importance, the stronger the performance anxiety.
Once that link is made, intrusive thoughts take over. "What if she doesn't like it? What if I embarrass myself? What if I can't pleasure her? What if I am not good enough?"
And the more you try to will it away, the more present it becomes, and now you're monitoring yourself, up in your head, instead of in your body, having a fulfilling sexual experience.
This is a nervous system pattern and because the nervous system is plastic, it can always be retrained.
How I Work With Men On Performance Anxiety
Every client gets a personalised formula built around how their specific pattern started and what's reinforcing it.
We start by identifying exactly when this began. For some men it's tied to a specific moment or comment. For others, it has no clear origin or maybe it's been there since day 1. Both are common, and both are treatable.
Then we work on shifting the focus away from performance and intrusive thought loops, and back toward presence and pleasure. Most performance anxiety is sustained by attention being in the wrong place - on monitoring, predicting, and worrying, rather than on the physical experience happening.
We use real, practical tools to break intrusive thinking in the moment, alongside deeper work on reconditioning the nervous system to stay present during sex and not distract you anymore.
For many men, this resolves faster than they expect. Sometimes within a handful of sessions because there's often one specific thing driving the entire pattern, not years of complex history to untangle.
All coaching is one-to-one and completely online, so you can work with me from anywhere in the world in complete privacy.

This is for you if:
-
You've had plenty of sexual experience before, and this still happened, or you've had this your whole life.
-
It only seems to happen with someone you actually care about
-
Your mind races during sex, monitoring yourself instead of being present
-
You've started avoiding sex or dating altogether because the anxiety is too much
-
The more a relationship matters, the worse the anxiety gets
-
You've started avoiding intimacy because the pressure feels too high
-
You don't understand why this is happening because nothing seems "wrong"

FAQ
Why does performance anxiety happen with someone I really care about, but not with others?
When someone matters more, your nervous system raises the stakes of the moment. It starts treating sexual performance as a test of whether you'll keep this person, which creates pressure that wasn't there in lower-stakes situations. This is one of the most common and most misunderstood patterns I see.
Can performance anxiety happen without any erectile dysfunction?
Yes. Many men experience performance anxiety as racing thoughts, an inability to stay present, or intense self-monitoring during sex, without ever losing an erection. The anxiety itself is the primary issue, separate from physical function.
Why do I get performance anxiety even though I have plenty of sexual experience?
Experience doesn't prevent performance anxiety because the issue isn't skill or familiarity, it's how much threat the situation creates for you. Many men with extensive sexual history develop performance anxiety for the first time when they meet someone who genuinely matters.
How is performance anxiety different from general anxiety?
General anxiety can show up anywhere in life. Performance anxiety is specific to moments where your nervous system has linked an activity to evaluation or risk of rejection. With sex, this often intensifies because intimacy already involves vulnerability.
How long does performance anxiety coaching take?
Many men see meaningful change within a few sessions, since performance anxiety is often driven by one specific underlying belief or pattern rather than years of compounding history. Typically I work with men for 6 weeks or 12 weeks, depending on how strong the anxiety is.
You've Been Dealing With This Long Enough.
Performance anxiety doesn't resolve on its own by trying harder or thinking about it less. The longer it goes unaddressed, the more reinforced the pattern becomes.
The men I work with often can't explain why this started happening to them, they just want it to stop.
